Two Pheasant Hunters Fatally Wounded on First Hunting Day

Leo Zwifka, 32 years old, of No. 60 Moore Street, Albion, was killed when his gun discharged while he was climbing a fence.

Leo Zwifka shot himself accidentally while going through a fence on the farm of E. K. Van Allen at Hilton. The charge entered his left breast, several of the shots lodging in his heart. He died almost instantly. The charge tore away most of the clothing on his left side.

James Radzinski of Joseph Street, Albion, who was hunting with Zwifka said he looked back when he heard his friend's gun fire. He saw Zwifka stagger. He started to a farmhour with his wounded friend, but they had gone only 50 feet when Zwifka said: "Lay me down. You need not carry me any further. I guess I am dying!"

Radzinski hurried away to call a doctor, but when he returned his friend was dead.

Zwifka is survived by his wife and two children, his mother, two sisters and five brothers.
