Richard E. Bielak

Mr. Richard E. Bielak, of Medina, passed away on September 2, 2014 at the Medina Memorial Hospital. He was born in Medina, January 17, 1932, the son of the late Celia Cichocki and Edward J. Bielak. A graduate of Medina High School class of 1949, he served in the US Air Force as a radio operator from 1951-1955. He flew 19 missions on a B-29 over Korea and upon his return to Hunter AFB in Georgia, he continued as a radio operator on KC-97 Air Refuelers. He was awarded an Air Medal and a Korean Medal.

On September 7, 1957 he married the former Shirley Sargent. He was employed by Harrison Radiator in Lockport for 42 years, retiring in 1991. He was one of the organizers and Past President for many years of Medina Powder Puff Baseball. He coached from 1975-2000, coaching all four of his daughters. Then he helped to coach his granddaughters in 2009 and 2010.

Mr. Bielak was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church until July 2008 when the church closed. He is a member of Holy Trinity Parish, a life member of the Sacred Heart Society, Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion and Lincoln Post #1483, VFW. He enjoyed sports, family gatherings, and walking.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; 6 children, Michael (Karen) Bielak of Medina, Laurinda Punch of Medina, Lynette (Stephen) Fralick of Medina, Kathleen Bielak of Lockport, Karen Sylvester of Virginia Beach, VA and Steven Bielak of Medina; 6 grandchildren, Joshua Sylvester, Adam (Rachel) Sylvester, Brett (Nichole) Bielak, Madison, Kylie and Molly Bielak;8 great grandchildren, Rachael, Ada, Isaac, Ava, Emily and Kameron Sylvester and Cody and Peyton Bielak; 4 brothers-in-law, Robert (Rose) Nickerson, Carl (Pat) Sargent, William (Barb) Sargent, Robert (Pat) Fox and a sister-in-law, Margaret (Loren) Johnson; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Jablonski in 2010; and 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Fox in 2002 and Pat Nickerson in 2009.

Friends may call on Sunday (5-8) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 11AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary's Church. Military honors will be accorded at graveside at Sacred Heart Cemetery by members of Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion and Lincoln Post #1483, VFW.
