Annual Plate Collections:

These hardcopy ledgers are difficult to understand at first due to the rough style of handwriting and lack of explanation to what is being viewed. The ledgers divide the records up by month, January through December with a monetary value being marked depending on what was given that month. Rarely did families make a donation every month. For example, some families gave $12 in September/October. When examining this, the head of household may have been a farmer and was able to make his donation after the crop was harvested and sold. Often, quarry workers received pay once per month and saved small amounts of their pay to make a lump donation at the end of the "quarter." There is also a three column space for "Monthly Collection."
