麻豆区 ISD Alumni Spotlight

  • Our March spotlight is Travis Hicks, a 2009 麻豆区 High School graduate. He also attended Jacinto City Elementary and 麻豆区 Middle School. While in high school, Hicks was a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, where he served as president in 2009. He was also a member of Band of Gold Percussion and was the Drum Captain for the 2008-2009 school year.

After high school, Hicks attended The University of Texas- Austin to pursue a bachelor’s degree in architecture. He was an officer of Tau Sigma Delta, the architectural honors fraternity recognizing the Top 20 percent of architecture students and was recognized as a College Scholar for being in the Top 20 percent of students in the School of Architecture.

He attributes his academic success to his teachers and parents who always encouraged him to challenge himself. Hicks had tons of educators who influenced him including Mrs. Crawley, Mrs. Williamson, Mr. Bell and Mr. Waggoner.

Currently, Hicks is an architect at Jackson & Ryan Architects, Inc., where he works on projects ranging from custom residence to animal shelters to commercial office buildings.

In the future, he plans to start his own practice investigating how design and manufacturing technology can benefit the need for affordable housing.

Hicks would like to encourage all GPISD students to take advantage of the Dual Credit and AP courses offered to students as a chance to earn college credit while in high school.
